Brian is a dynamic, award winning, sustainability executive with outstanding success creating and launching specialty consumer and contractor programs for Architectural, Commercial and Industrial markets. In 2004, Brian was the first person in the Coatings Industry to become a LEED accredited professional and earn a Sustainable Building Advisor Certificate. Brian is skilled in managing cross-functional teams, maneuvering through market resistance and mastering the stewardship of limited resources. He approaches each project with a versatile technical knowledge and creative vision impact, while maintaining a business-minded outlook.
Formerly, the Program Administrator/Director of Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency for Ecos Consulting in Portland, Oregon, Brian develop and implemented several environmental outreach programs. Brian directed all West Coast business through 54 people located throughout the Western states. He implemented changes to turn a failing department into the corporate flagship. He increased revenue stream by 41% and developed new customers by 390% increase over previous fiscal year. Brian oversaw and led turkey projects associated with engineering, design, assembly, and installation of highly engineered comprehensive systems. He defined scope, coordinated internal and external teams and vendor resources, monitored cost and schedule to manage financial profitability, ensure project scope and end product meet the contract requirements, and interfaced with client on technical commercial, industrial levels and scheduled issues to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction while meeting the needs of the clients as well.
Additionally, while working as the Division Managers of Architectural & Design at Miller Paint Co. (a dominate regional sustainable coatings manufacturer), he directly oversaw strategic planning and implementation of multiple low and zero VOC product lines, including brand development, sales, marketing initiatives, educational events and professional alliance (i.e. USGBC, AIA, PDCA, CSI, HBA, RC, BIA). He manage the Residential and Commercial Marketing for a 117 year old regional paint and coatings manufacturer, creating and implementing market research, new product development, brand management, media relations, advertising/promotions, communications, graphic design, PR, trade shows, trade publication (advertising and article writer), spokesperson, public speaker/presenter, technical product knowledge advisor, corporate training, vendor fairs, sales contests and annual corporate sales meetings coordinator.
Brian developed a ten-year strategic marketing plan and establishment six new profit opportunities. Brian also lead the architectural and design specifications team to launch a new Corporate Division, including business plan, customer identification/development, metrics tool and new color system. He then created technical specifications manuals & produce new corporate brand materials.
His teams also re-developed and received the Green Seal Certification (GS-11) on two environmentally responsible lines. These lines were included in the Sustainable Industries Journal Top 10 Green Building Products of 2006. Additionally, in 2004 Brian was a contributing article writer on Green Building Practices in Paint & Decorating Retailer magazine. In June 2006, he receive the Constructions Specifications Institute Certificate of Appreciation.
In 1992, Brian was the co-founder of the Marion County (Oregon) Paint Back program: a volunteer pain recycling program to eradicate graffiti. He was a recipient of the Salem, OR AI Louck’s Business-Government Partnership Award in May 1994, and of the City of Salem Police Department Distinguished Service Award in March 1994.
As the Chief Operating Officer of HBS, Brian currently oversees all U.S. operations. He was hired August 08, 2008 and relocated to Washington, DC from Portland, OR. He is currently structuring Healthy Buildings Solutions for planned growth into targeted regional cities. Brian’s experience working as a Third Party Consultant to the California Public Utilities Commission, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), Sempra Utilities, San Diego Gas and Electric, the City of San Jose as well as private sector clients such as Nestle Waters America, Calistoga Beverage, Arrowhead Water. Del Monte, 3M, PPG Industries, Dopaco, Philips, Hitachi, Baltimore Air Coil, ConAgra, Headway Technologies, Smurfit Container and others, enables him to provide new clients with “real world” knowledge implementing sustainable measures based on ROI and client goals.
